Non-specific MRI contrast media are gadolinium complexes. Free gadolinium is cytotoxic and therefore poisonous for the body.
DOTAREM is the most stable gadolinium complex known to date. Thanks to its macrocyclic structure, which forms a sort of cage around the toxic metal, the gadolinium cannot affect its biological targets. This cage guarantees a high safety margin with DOTAREM

DOTAREM is injected intravenously for the MR exploration of many diseases, but is particularly recommended for neurological (spine and cord), abdominal and muskuloskeletal procedures.
